My dad was diagnosed with cancer in late October and has been in chemo since.

If you have not already been connected to an oncology nurse navigator, check to see if there is one available in your area. The service is free and provides a wonderful resource for both the patient and family to understand treatment and answer questions. Info is available at the American Cancer Society website.

As for chemo, be prepared for the first few rounds to be a battle with side effects. But always talk to the medical team about what is happening. They can do much more to alleviate them than patients generally think. My dad's first two rounds were horrible, including a hospitalization for side effects, but this many months in, they are learning what he needs to manage the effects. We were surprised that the worst side effects come 7-10 days after each treatment rather than immediately, but many who have experienced chemo tell us that is actually pretty normal.

I have included you and your wife in my prayers these last weeks.
