      I know!

I say that about racing, too, but am careful who's around when I say it!

how very popular car racing and NASCAR are and more surprising that the fan base covers such a variety of people!

I've always loved automobiles, partially due to my Detroit roots, but have never understood racing.
A bunch of cars going in circles doesn't appeal to me, but I respect people who enjoy that 'sport'.

I prefer baseball, football and hockey!

plenty of time for a beer or two; or a bathroom break.

Oh, and did I mention the air & sun of the summer; at a park???

            And, generally, cheaper ticket...

started in the early 60s), the "fun" came from having fast cars that handled beautifully and roads with curves banked to hold the cars instead of catapulting them off at the apex.  those days, the speed limit was 80 with 9 miles over the limit not getting you "chased" - and every southerner could then (and still) drive as fast in reverse as forward.

the sounds of a finely tuned engine were music to live by - and all the guys and SOME of us girls knew more about the combustion engine than our teachers!

i love driving - i've had the pleasure of testing out acura against bmw, lexus and honda against infinity and mazda on race designed tracks overseen by former racers when i worked for honda and acura.  we tested new models to "feel" the difference in handling - and we got to put the cars through their paces - i loved it (and scared the bejeesus out of some of my coworkers on shared drives) - but the track supervisors (who pulled some of the young kids that THOUGHT they knew what they were doing) just smiled and held me back so i wouldn't overtake the previous group in the car ahead.

fun times!  don't know which was more fun - the acura superhandling all wheel drive or the honda stick.

WOO HOOOOOOO!  would LOVE to drive the track one day.  the closest i've gotten was to be a passenger at laguna seca on demo drives with the neon racers a few years back.  WHEEEEEE!

in 2009 - she is truly a ground breaker for all of us women who love to drive fast!

unfortunately, that day, she and another car crashed minutes before the finish and the race ended under yellow.

i was pleased to see her move from formula one to indy to nascar.  wishing her much success!
