During the 2008 election, the Obama campaign claimed they weren't taking money from lobbyists, which led to the infamous exchange at the Daily Kos event when Hilary refused to do the same and  said, “A lot of those lobbyists, whether you like it or not, represent real Americans."

It was part of the reason I supported him in the primary. Little did I know how much he was taking from Wall Street, that in fact Wall Street was betting heavily on him to beat McCain. That it wasn't from lobbyists doesn't seem to matter in how those contributions have been paid back by the administration and DOJ.

      •  You don't need to be a lobbyist... (1+ / 0-)

You don't need to be an official, registered lobbyist to engage in much of the same advocacy that lobbyists do. In this case, it's even worse as Lew will be involved in making policy decisions and the like.... To suggest that his prior employment, and possible future prospects won't have an effect on how he runs the Treasury would require ignoring how members of the cabinet have run their operations the past four years. Eric Holder wasn't a lobbyist, but he came from a law firm that represented Wall Street's biggest firms. The results speak for themselves.
