space opera TV show, without either the magic tech of Star Trek or the bullshit of other series.  Just show the majesty of space and people living and working in it.

    Pour yourself into the future.

spending centuries traveling in outer space, then suddenly, accidentally, crashing into . . . Ouch, don't you hate it when that happens?

I can recommend VERY HIGHLY a 26-episode anime titled "Planetes".

It is the single most-accurate story about life in space that I have ever seen, in over 50 years of watching every SciFi and science-related show I could find.

Focusing on every-day life for a crew of Debris Haulers tasked with collecting man-made junk in orbit (as part of an international effort to make high-traffic orbits less dangerous), "Planetes" features believable characters trying to earn a living in space, while still trying to hang on to the dream of exploration.

If you can't find it at a video rental, it is available @ http://www.amazon.com/...

      •  I actually have Planetes on DVD. (0+ / 0-)

I was hoping for live-action rather than anime - something that as much as possible communicates in stunningly real visual detail what the future will look like.  Also, Planetes is good, but it's kind of understated.  There are a few scenes in a few episodes that try to be profound, but mostly the narrative is very spartan.

Basically when I'm thinking of stylistically is Primer in space, extended into a TV series.  Just in terms of visual and acting style though - no plot resemblance.
