  •  Congratulations! (12+ / 0-)

It must have been gratifying if you have to deal with such jerks at all to have the upper hand.

On occasion I have found a temper to be useful as well.  I very seldom loose my temper, but when I do is seems to work.  It got me an insurance settlement and an apology once and a raise in pay on another occasion.  In both cases I was dealing with jerks who just did not get it until I laid it out in no uncertain terms. They just pushed me one inch too far. I've always been so passive that my supervisor was in shock on the second occasion. The threat of my quitting (which I had never made before or since) seemed to sober everybody up.  You have to be judicious with such tactics, or they don't work.  But you also have to stand up for yourself.

    •  It's not gratifying per se (9+ / 0-)

because it doesn't change anything.  They're still odious people who, if they figure they can get away with something, would.  This won't be the last time I'll "have words" with either her or her milquetoast (odious, just in a different way) husband, or possibly the loser son across the street (he seems to avoid getting involved in all her shit if he can, takes after his father).

I hate living next to people I despise.  It's one thing if everybody ignores everybody but having someone walk brazenly into your place like that?  It's not unusual, she did it for years to everybody living on our street until everybody started locking their front doors even when they're home.
