You did live in the Redneck Christian area of JoCo. Lawrence is not the only place of free thinking. KCK also is blue but there is hope. In the election map of red, Douglas and Wyndotte counties were blue but in the sea of red there was one other blue, Liberal, KS in the far SW part of KS.  It foretells the future in KS. Liberal is now heavily Hispanic and the future of western KS. As the old white men and their progeny die off, the change will come. When the wreckage of the Brownback era is fully realized in Johnson county the same will be true. You can only crusade so far to bankruptcy. Ask them in JoCo what is was like waiting 8 to 10 hours to register a car due to cut backs. They were even sending out Text messages when you number was up. It took me 20 minutes in MO. Brownie and his Republican crew got taken to the cleaners by Boeing promising 8,000 jobs in Wichita if they got the fuel tanker contract that they push for rebidding. Brownie's reward was the closure of the entire Boeing operation in Wichita, leaving the city, county and state with millions of dollars in bonds for the improvement they gave them. As WC Fields said, a sucker is born every day. Brownie is $750M in deficit and the supreme court just awarded the schools another $500M in damages for not meeting the school formula. Now they want to eliminate income taxes? If Kansans believe this fool, so be it. We have a national debt and deficit based upon the same faulty fiscal ideology.

Is also a demonstration of demographics and change. The school district is about 15% white.

    •  When did Liberal become liberal? (0+ / 0-)

It's always been super-conservative as far as I'm aware. Would love to think that it's living up to its name.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. -- John Kenneth Galbraith

Many offices in Seward Co  races, (Liberal) go uncontested Republican. The vote for Romney in our county was 70+ percent in favor of him. Many counties in this area were 85-90+ percent Romney and it might have been brought down a bit due to the Hispanic population. A middle school election was 10-1 in favor of Obama in terms of difference, about 300 kids voted. But don't EVEN think that Liberal KS is progressive at the present time.

    •  Not true about Liberal at all!! (1+ / 0-)

Garden City, Dodge City, and Liberal are increasingly heavily populated by Hispanics. Maybe in the 2020's there might be a voting change, but not NOW. Nothing blue about the three cities at the present time. Hispanics, (see Texas) are slow about being an impact as per voting. Lots of Hispanics there, but comparatively little voting impact, because many of the eligible ones don't vote. Same applies to Southwest Kansas/

    •  Thanx for sharing about Brownback (0+ / 0-)

I couldn't bring myself to do so; I'm glad you did as someone had to.
