    and I agree it's not good to exaggerate crowds, but I agree that we don't have to take the diarist's count as gospel either. Meteor Blades did the same thing at the SF rally, counting about 2000 for the initial walk around the State Dept building, but his final estimate was 4000 because there were still tons of people arriving and by the time everyone settled at Justin Herman Plaza it seemed like there were significantly more people. Again, I don't like the inflating of numbers, but I also don't think you get an exact count at a rock show an hour before the band hits.
