If median family income is the measure, then yes, Reagan was a failure.  Not everyone would use that metric as the only determination of success or failure, however.

Reagan took a dismal economy that he inherited from Carter and made it a booming one. (GDP growth shot up to ~ 8% in his 4th year of his first term)  Was Reagan really responsible for that boom?  Somewhat, at least.

Your median income failure can be blamed more on globalization of American jobs than anything else, in my humble opinion.

Ronald Reagan, under the influence of Greenspan, Bork and Uncle Miltie, instituted policies based on the fraud that is Free Market Fundamentalism. Globalization didn't just happen, it was a policy.

The free market is not the solution, the free market is the problem.

        It was a natural progression.

What you don't like about it is that we let it happen.  I really don't think any policies could have stopped it, however.  America doesn't live in a bubble.  It did until the early 70's.. but then the bubble burst.  There was no stopping globalization.  It was an inevitability.

and tripling the debt, the net didn't come out so well.

Also, let's not forget Carter got NO help from the Fed.
