Long before "Conservatives" leave their paranoid schizophrenia, climate change and their relentless Earth exploitation is going to run them from their homes. Before Biloxi and the rest of the Gulf Coast is permanently submerged, though amidst plenty of Katrina/Sandy superstorms and "once in a lifetime" river floods, they're going to run out of water.

The Ogallala Aquifer is the source for most of the agricultural, industrial and urban water starting just south of Texas' Panhandle, through all of eastern New Mexico and western Oklahoma, eastern  Colorado and western Kansas, all of Nebraska, southeast Wyoming and southern South Dakota. About 27% of the US irrigated land is fed by the Ogallala, along with 82% of the over 2 million people who live on the High Plains.

When the Ogallala Aquifer dries up, most of the agriculture that makes the Midwest (to some) worth living in will be a Dust Bowl again. Cities, towns, and doomsday bunkers will be abandoned in search of water to live. The millions displaced will first try to find a place among their own outside the crater, which will just drag those places down. An orgy of "libertarian" gunfire, combined with the typical squeeze for welfare.

Who knows whether these lunatics will keep some recombinant form of "Conservatism", or whether the Republican Party's corporate sponsors will exploit the crisis to gain even more power. But the actual base will be forced off its land and away from whatever lifestyle it's been "conserving" for the century and a half since it was forced to trade live slaves for dead Indians.

Probably they'll sink deeper into the theocratic warlordism that their spiritual twins in the wastes from Arabia through Central Asia have made their own.
