All the Knowledge Democrats are interested at this point are collecting information.  Planning will come later, whether  in 2014 or in 2016 or even later.  Right now, district assessment.

However, remember that Gohmert's district was previously represented by a Blue Dog Democrat.  Had Max Sandlin kept his seat and even up till today, we'd have one less seat to worry about and one seat closer to Nancy Pelosi getting back her gavel.

    •  Sandlin represented a different district. (0+ / 0-)

Tyler is Gohmert's base and that wasn't a part of the District represented by Sandlin.

The Texas Legislature added Tyler and Longview to the district in order to get Sandlin out.

They also removed much of the northern part of that District which has a higher black population.

The redistricting which resulted in Gohmert's victory totally changed the first District by splitting it in two and adding the Republican strongholds of Tyler and Longview to give Gohmert the first while expanding Hall's 4th District away from the liberal leaning Dallas County but keeping one of the most Republican areas of the State, Rockwall, within the 4th.

There isn't many locally specific issues, other than forestry, which would impact the First District specifically. The national issues regarding parks could have an impact considering there are a few lakes in the area under control of the Corp of Engineers.

The gun issue is also big here and any gun legislation will ensure Democrats won't win either Congressional seats in the near future.

I, for one, have no problem being led by a 3500 year old Pharaoh who was trained by space aliens on a distant star.

The redistricting did in fact impact Sandlin's ability to hold office although it was the cause of Tom DeLay more the less to strengthen the GOP's presence in Texas.

This may also say a number of things in Texas which not enough people nationally are aware of: There are more Democrats in the state than we are led to believe but that the GOP pretty much has a strange hold on the political system.  This in turn has impaired the Democratic Party of Texas although nowadays it seems that it is starting to fire up its base thanks to additional recognition of state leaders like Julian Castro, the Mayor of San Antonio, who was the keynote speaker at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
