  •  If it's an organ, it obviously is her decision (16+ / 0-)

Nobody is picketing hospitals to stop appendectomies.

I thought the whole point of their argument is that a blastocyst is a person, at least equal in value to the person in whose uterus it resides--and thus she has no right to remove it from that uterus.

Are any of them fighting tooth and nail to criminalize the donation of kidneys? No, they're not. They don't think a kidney is a person.

If she's arguing that a blastocyst or a fetus is an organ, then she's arguing that it is not a person--and she's supporting the right of people to make their own decisions.

Or so it appears to me.

    •  Precisely (4+ / 0-)

You do not have to have specific government-dictated speeches or procedures to remove an organ. No one makes rules about how you must go about it, how many doctor visits you must have or what a waiting period is. If ALL a baby is is an organ, then there should be NO government-dictated rules at all — only whatever the doctor and patient decide. It should be utterly uncontroversial, just like removing  gall bladder.

      •  And no laws needed on facilities (0+ / 0-)

The doctors and hospitals would decide what type of facilities are required--the kind needed for open-heart surgery? the kind needed for outpatient surgery?

You wouldn't need laws to compel every facility used for some form of surgery to be identical.
