  •  be careful...that's exactly what a lot of people (11+ / 0-)

were saying after 2008...and then 2010 happened. The election results in 2010 were not supposed to happen, demographically and for all of the reasons you cited.

Your assessment seems, basically, correct, from a long term view. However, Republicans have been able to use creative short-term tactics to their advantage for years to keep competitive.

How much longer they can continue to do that is the question.

Scaring people into thinking Democrats would unilaterally disarm this country and let the Soviety Union was their tactical weapon for many years. Then the Soviet Union went away. Then Gays and other wedge issues became one of their tactical "aces in the hole." Then, under George Walker Bush, "terrrorists under every bed" became their tactic to scare the crap out of people, defying demographic trends. And in 2010...Obamacare and socialism.

Currently, their preferred tactic is to try to rig elections for themselves whenever and wherever possible with a combination of efforts to disenfranchise voters, combined with simply trying to buy themselves elections with unlimited amounts of secret corporate money thanks to five of the most corrupt Supreme Court Injustices in American history (Scalia, Thomas, Alito, Kennedy & Roberts, in their Citizens United ruling/abomination/in-kind contribution to the Republican Party).

Don't underestimate the ability of Republicans to find ever more creative tactical methods to keep themselves competitive. They've been doing it for years.

    We cannot underestimate
