The Tesla is a real luxury car, and it's faster than any "muscle" car ever made.

just to charge. And going by the statements attributed to the Tesla folks by the Times report (and not contested by anyone).

It's top speed is 125 mph (electronically limited).  But it does 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds.

If you had $2.4 million a Veyron would get you 0-60 in 2.4 seconds.  You might have to peel your tongue off your uvula.  It's certainly not a traditional muscle car, though.

The Nissan GT-R at only $89,950 will get you there in 2.8 seconds.

      •  Not sure if this is the case in all states (0+ / 0-)

But I know that in NH, a car qualifies as a "low flying aircraft" at 127 mph (this bit of trivia comes courtesy of a relative who lost their right to drive in the state, for obvious reasons). My guess is the limit on top speed is probably a federally required limit for on-road vehicles.
