those whiny little bitches in the White House press corps?

I think Politico had around 20 stories on their site today following up on their big "Obama, the puppet master" scoop.

I can practically smell the Pulitzers from here.

The reason why politicians, corporations, NGOs, movie studios, record labels, celebrities, etc. have publicists and devise media strategies is that if they don't, the media will create their own narrative which is 9 times out of 10 not designed to inform the public, but to sell ads in newspapers & get ratings points on cable news

I once saw an interview with Jon Stewart where he talked about how members of the press will laugh & snicker along when he skewers politicians on "The Daily Show," but when he would then ask the same members of the press to explain some of their own hypocrisies they would then sound exactly the same as politicians in trying to obfuscate their own behavior in exploiting death, tragedy, and scandal by hiding behind the First Amendment.

There are those in the Washington press corps who do a good job, and then they have their members who worry about whether they'll get invited to dinner parties, the seating arrangement in the White House briefing room, or just watching which way the political wind is blowing & basing their perspective on that. The Washington Post's Sally Quinn has a way of finding herself onto Sunday morning talk-shows every now & again. I can't stand her. This is a woman who held a grudge against the Clintons because they wouldn't come to her damn dinner parties. They dared not to bow to the Queen of the media elite in Washington. Quinn usually pontificates on morality & values during her interviews. During the 90s, she gave President Clinton all types of hell. But for all of Quinn's bluster during the Lewinsky episode about dignity & morality, she somehow forgot that she broke up the marriage of her boss, the former editor of the Washington Post Ben Bradlee, and then went on to marry Bradlee to attain her social status.

To this day, Chris Matthews still bothers me, and probably always will. I still remember the shit he gave Al Gore, and the fawning praise he gave to George W. Bush back in 2000. I still remember during the 2000 campaign him telling a guest that Bush "wasn't a conservative" but a moderate. And I still remember Matthews going gaga as Bush was landing in a flight suit on the USS Abraham Lincoln to give a speech under a banner with "Mission Accomplished." When the wind shifted, and Bush's numbers went south in polling, then & only then did Matthews become a critic of this administration, and begin to ask "hardball" questions on his show.

I tend to ideally hope that ONDs promote somewhat interesting discussion and/or awareness of news and cultural events with at least a bit of value within each reference.

Although, I have a backup OND experiment waiting in the wings which goes in a completely different direction towards a similar goal . . . maybe that would allow for Politico nonsense (i.e., it's a symbolic play).
