  •  The drawl among southern politicians (0+ / 0-)

Is a strong indicator of the idiocy, ignorance, greed and just plain refusal to practice empathy for those they consider their inferiors.

Southerners without those qualities can learn to drop the drawl.

The US Supreme Court has by its actions and rhetoric has ceased to be legitimate. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot - over

I really do. My mother and most of my relatives on her side had a drawl so thick you could cut it with a knife.  She was the soul of kindness. If you were downtrodden, she would take you in. If you were a wounded animal, she would nurse you back to health. She never had a bad word to say about anyone.

When I hear a drawl, I think of her, and the half of the country that gave us Faulkner, and Lucinda Williams, and Tennessee Williams, and the cocktail, and rock 'n roll, and and jazz.....

One thing that has always appalled me is the idea that if you have an accent, you are stupid.  The war is over. Northerners won, and thank heavens for that. But if the US and Japan can reconcile, then the two halves of the country can as well.

Reconciliation means not regarding every single person with a Southern accent as a fool.

If you hate government, don't run for office in that government.

      •  Have you heard Sessions? (0+ / 0-)

His drawl does not evoke any of those things to this Yankee. It's ridiculous not merely because it's a drawl and/or Southern, but because it's a particularly cultivated, exaggerated Southern politician's drawl. It's meant to evoke the speaker's privileged position atop the semi-feudal economy of rural Alabama.
