    She was born here, as were her parents. He was an immigrant and was never naturalized. For a time in the early 20th century women lost their citizenship if their husbands were not citizens. Later it was restored if the woman made application. The idea was that women would be swayed by their husbands, who could harbor subversive thoughts.
