when or why Baucus started to tank.  It was his front and center role in the debacle that was health care reform.  His approvals went down to GW Bush levels, and have actually generally been on the upswing since.

Baucus tanked because of the negative advertising given the ACA and Baucus had a lot to do with ushering the bill through the senate.

If he'd taken a more reticent role his numbers might be better.

He was the enabler to a large extent for pharma, and they will be generous as they could have done much worse in the bill.

        •  Pharma COULD have done much worse? (1+ / 0-)

Both big pharma and private healthcare WOULD have done a LOT worse if his committee had allowed all options a voice at the table. ACA would have looked a lot different if an honest debate had taken place.

He performed well for his corporate masters.

as Finance Chair, but yeah.  Jon Tester kept a low profile on health care reform, remained popular, and won re-election.  That will be tougher for Baucus.

That implies movement. Baucus held up the bill.

If Baucus did not want the attention, he did not have to hold up the bill in the finance committee. He could have just rubber-stamped the HELP committee's bill with little fanfare.

          •  I think he was working on making as good a bill (0+ / 0-)

            as he could.

It's very complex and has many pieces that we are just beginning to understand. I'd of like single provider, but lacking that it's still a great piece of legislation.

He nominated his girlfriend for us atty and she had to withdraw when they discovered their relationship. I think people are just ready to toss all the Washington insiders out and Baucus has been in congress since 1974.
He never has worked outside the govt so maybe he is ready to cash in since he probably isn't all that well off for a senator.
