it has been this way in the past, it will be decent in the future.

    it is still an option.

For GOD's sake, don't let only crazed conservatives be in the military... that way lies a coup.

    no kidding.

    think about it.

    •  It is a very good point (none)
And one could certainly argue that the Bush administration made a terrible move in making war a partisan event.

As a result, there are a great many people, like kos, who would have nothing to do with serving because the military has now become a paritisan institution.

It's similar in a way to how I finally just stopped going to church because they had become partisan.

Of course now what's happened... The churches are nearly completely partisan and there are few sane people left.

      •  this is not true (none)
there are plenty of good churches.  You just don't hear about them b/c they don't go around beating their own drums.

My family left a church for that reason (it wasn't the minister but the congregation). We're at a very small, very rural church now. And I've begun speaking up in the Sunday school lessons as much there (and with similar messages) as I do here. And I'm finding more people each week agreeing with me (must be easier with a smaller group).

Bible Belt of Ohio here.  But there are still  good churches around that do not use partisan politics as part of their ministry.  I just happened to be in a very conservative, rightwing church.

Look, our mutual hero, has done a fair amount of "shopping around" for a church. I believe the General now attends Methodist service (the music is better.)

I am a progressive Christian. There IS a church for you somewhere. There are plenty of them--they just don't get the attention/engage in splashy marketing like the huge fundamentalist, Republican-Pac McChurches do. But they do exist.

And even in the most right-wing conservative town/neighborhood/church you WILL find fellow travelers.

"...don't let only crazed conservatives be in the military..."

The crazed conservatives are sitting at home popping pills, whacking off, and spouting off about supporting our commander in chief, avenging 9/11, and killing Arabs for Jesus -- all from the comfort of their couch. The poor naive kids are the ones getting trapped into pulling duty in Iraq.

Iraq is deja vu all over again.
