  •  No matter how interesting a lecture is (4+ / 0-)

Sometimes the mind just shuts off and you need to sleep.  I have to take micro naps,  sometimes as brief as five or ten minutes, just to function on most days.  I get adequate amounts of sleep at night - I've got some glandular disorder going on (going to endocrinologist soon to find out exactly what) and I wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with it.

The most interesting lecture in the world won't keep you awake if you have narcolepsy, for that matter.

the teacher said that he hated people falling asleep in his class.  He said that if you felt sleepy, not to fight it, because you would lose that battle.  He said you should get up and walk around.

I heard that judges balance a pen perpendicular to the desk with their finger.  When they nod off, the pen clatters to the desk and wakes them up.
