  •  I'm curious (12+ / 0-)

Do you seriously think that someone saying '100 rounds of ammunition' is both intentionally prejudicial and unfair to gun rights advocates?

Honestly? Do you really honestly believe that it is unfair to report the number of rounds of ammunition in a way that makes it clear how many rounds of ammunition there were?

This just boggles my mind. Just saying it is breathtakingly arrogant: 'anyone who isn't a gun rights advocate naturally is so ignorant and pliable that reporting a number of rounds is going to be unfairly prejudiced against guns!' (Or against this guy, or something, God, I don't know what.)

I mean, I realized that a lot of second amendment absolutists held the rest of us in a certain amount of contempt, but this is really pretty amazing. You should get outside your social circle sometimes. You may find that the rest of the country isn't actually as idiotic as you imagine.

    •  you seem to presume a good bit about me (7+ / 0-)

most of which is incorrect but then since this is the internet, I guess is does not matter.

OK, do we presume the rounds were not boxed but were lying about loose?  The fact that there were precisely 100 would indicate to me that they were boxed so why not use that unit of measure?  As noted by other commentators, an
afternoon of skeet would easily consume 100 rounds so why not put the number in context?

As noted by others here, it is the same method cops use for estimating the value of confiscated  weed so as to conflate the importance of the arrest.

In advertising it is called puffery; when the police engage in PR, it is the same thing

      •  Can you quote the part where the cops... (0+ / 0-)

...estimate the cost of the 100 (or 40,000) bullets?

As noted by others here, it is the same method cops use for estimating the value of confiscated  weed so as to conflate the importance of the arrest.
        Thank you in advance.
        •  you are a literal sort of person aren't you? (0+ / 0-)

BTW I forgot that 100 rounds could be 2 boxes of .22 ammo so it could be as much as the average plinker picks up at Walmart.  It is all about context and 2 boxes sounds a lot less ominous than 100 rounds, same as 1 lb of weed sounds less impressive than $20K street value
