I usually drink beer.......but tonight I had a tumbler of whisky.  I looked for a reasonably priced Scotch whisky that I liked (I swore off bourbon after an unfortunate Jack Daniels incident 30 years ago, the details of which I literally do not remember most of, but the result of which I couldn't hold even water down until 2PM the following day), and finally settled on Grants.  (The previous is going for a record for a run-on sentence).  I do like the single malts, but unfortunately, the price is a bit high except for special occasions.  Whiskys and beers have much in common in that each has so many types and so many subtle flavors within the types.  Try several, pick the ones that you like, and don't let anyone tell you what is "good" or "not good. "  I do know whisky snobs but I don't know any beer snobs--not that they don't exist, but beer seems to be more of a social equalizer than whisky.  Or, perhaps it is the crowd I hang out with.

surprised that you don't know any beer snobs though. lots of craft beer fans look down on industrial lager.

      •  But AmBev, MillerCoors and Pabst roundly deserve (0+ / 0-)

some disdain.  There are some brands in which they have bought some controlling interest that produce something drinkable, but their flagship brands are not worth it.  Yes, after mowing the lawn in August in Texas, anything cold is appropriate.  But, you still wouldn't taste it going down.

Support yer local brewer(s), and enjoy a good beer.
