    loop of housing. Due to the bankruptcy, they will not pass the credit checks done by property management companies for rentals. This is why so many families with crappy credit live in the more expensive option of week to week efficiency motel rentals, although in that model they don't have a deposit, security, pay utilities, etc. so maybe it's not as horrible deal as it appears.

    Great suggestions have been made by many - all worth following up on.

    1. Check into whether your friend can get "keys for cash" - many asset management companies will pay the former owners an incentive to move out of the foreclosed property so they can avoid an eviction proceeding and also as an incentive to the owners not to trash the place on the way out. These incentives can be in the thousands of dollars.

    2. They should have a moving yard sale pronto to raise cash and lighten up on unnecessary belongings.
