  •  i cook food (11+ / 0-)

for my dogs.  my ancient golden (14 and still going) has no food problems but is picky in his old age.  my ridgeback (3 1/2) is allergic to almost all meats, and many grains.  this means i either spend a fortune for processed specialty foods or cook.  guess which?  i cook chicken for rubi and beef, pork, and chicken for kalleigh.  i mix these meats with yams, carrots, green beans, and apples.  along with a scoop of high grade kibble, they get 1/2 cup of meat and 1/2 cup veggies.  i also bake their biscuits and dry thin chicken strips for treats.  the terror of one of them getting a tainted treat, the problems with rubi's allergies, and the huge cost of processed limited ingredient wet food just made this decision a no brainer. i can cook a week's worth of meals in about an hour for about $1 a serving, and none of it comes from china!
