    As you say, Climate Hawk, problems are little different across the border in Virginia's coalfields. Coal has about played out here and seams are so thin that miners are experiencing an increase in black lung/silicosis because they must drill through so much sandstone to get to the skinny coal seam.

    Local residents deny the coal depletion, even though they know it's true--bound to coal like a yoke of albatrosses.

      as coal plays out. That is what feels like the Stockholm Syndrome in these folks. It is not that they think the coal industry has been good to them, but see no hope beyond it.
