View Diary: More data on gun control policies even NRA members support (62 comments)

  •  JoanM - I didn't read the diary that way (6+ / 0-)

What I read was that there were four or five elements of gun control that had broad bi-partisan support, including NRA members. If the members of Congress are smart they will craft a bill with just those features and pass it first. That bill will not be a comprehensive gun control law which can be debated after we pass the first bill that includes those features where nearly everyone agrees. A democratic republic does not respond to simple majorities, but rather to views that have overwhelming bipartisan support.

    •  A huge bill may just get bogged down (6+ / 0-)

I would also prefer they start with broadly supported gun control measures and work from there. I want more, of course, but I also want some progress to be made rather than none.

    •  I don't see the contradiction, VClib... (5+ / 0-)

so I am not disagreeing with you.
Problem is, the majority of NRA members may support sensible gun control laws but the NRA leadership want things to stay exactly as they are.
