violated their own policy, by revealing worse truths about the customer than the server had. Do you disagree?
What information did Applebee's reveal that wasn't already revealed in the original violation of the customer's privacy?
It's important to note that the server, Chelsea Welch, has not played the victim in any way. To her credit.
Sure, I am not arguing that the waitress is a bad person. I am merely arguing that being fired was the correct result of this case. Sometimes all jobs involve "sucking it up" and accepting insults. Unless company policies involve violations of the law, all employees must follow them, especially when the policies involve customer privacy or similar issues.

    •  Applebee's revealed the vindictiveness of a (0+ / 0-)

Pastor in seeking the FIRING of a server for actions the pastor wanted to accept no responsibility for. To my mind, wanting to have someone fired for mistakes one made oneself is far worse than merely being a cheapskate and an asshole. Applebee's revealed THAT information, not Chelsea Welch.

Why was revealing that information a violation of the pastor's trust? Suddenly she wasn't JUST a cheapskate and a jerk, she wanted someone (according to reports, she called for the firings of a number of people, not just the server who posted the receipt on Reddit) FIRED for a situation that would never have happened without her spiteful note. Applebee's published that violation of trust, that violation of the customer's 'right to privacy.' They even did it on their Facebook page.

    •  Maybe I am not explaining my position well. (0+ / 0-)

I put myself in the customer's position.

I go to Applebee's for a meal, I learn of Applebee's CORPORATE policy that mandates an 18% tip for the circumstances in which I ate. Yet, though the policy is Applebee's, I go out of my way, first, to write a spiteful note to a server about the tip that isn't the server's fault or policy. That reflects badly on me, of course, as it reveals me to be, not MERELY a cheapskate, but a spiteful one, who blames innocent servers for corporate policy.

Okay, the server posts my spiteful note on the Internet, revealing me to be the person I am, embarrassing me. I complain to Applebee's, request the firing of the server and just about every other employee in the restaurant at the time. Then Applebee's PUBLISHES and makes public the fact of my hateful vindictiveness, my lust for vengeance on the server. I would regard that as reflecting much worse on me than my original spiteful note ever did. Because it shows I am not JUST a cheapskate, and a skapegoater (for blaming the server for Applebee's policy), and a spiteful SOB. It shows I want blood for a series of incidents I alone set in motion. I want someone to lose their JOB, which would never have been at risk had I not CHOSEN to make a petty point.

To me, that would reflect far worse on me than merely joining the millions of cheapskates and assholes in our world, and it reflects worse on me because Applebee's revealed my vindictiveness, hatefulness, and utter unwillingness to accept responsibility for my actions. Applebee's showed a worse side of me than the server ever revealed, and my ire with Applebee's would reflect that. Since they would have violated my trust in a worse way than the server did, initially, reflecting worse on me. Absolutely, in the customer's place, I would address that with Applebee's. They showed their hypocrisy in not firing THEMSELVES along with the server.
