or are in really deep denial.

Transferring blame is instinctive in people; children start doing it at a very young age, and do it less as they grow (if they and their parents are lucky.) I believe at least part of this phenomenon involves self-denial -- the person really believes that they don't own the blame for a negative outcome.

I don't know if Republicans are quicker than liberals at shifting blame onto others. (I think they may be, because I think they tend to be less reflective than liberals, but I couldn't begin to offer proof of this.) But it's Republicans who tend to decry the lack of "personal responsibility" in this country.

Personal responsibility isn't about avoiding mistakes, so much as it is about admitting them and learning from them. Isn't it time for Republicans to start taking some active leadership in this area, by admitting mistakes that they've made? And shouldn't that leadership come from the top?

Am I holding my breath in anticipation?

Yes, liberals are elitist. They believe everyone should be able to join the elite.
