The 3rd week of my senior year in high school, as I waited to cross the road that ran the perimeter of Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City, NY to get to my job, I was struck by a woman in a rush to go who knows where. I was flipped onto the hood of her car, bounced off her windshield and fell to the ground.

The woman never slowed down; a witness to the accident got her license plate and reported it

I had 2 fractured lumbar vertebrae, a torn medial collateral knee ligament and a concussion which cost me nearly 2 months of school from going in and out of the hospital and the offer of a college wrestling scholarship...

The driver was never charged...despite my injuries and the reports of the witnesses.

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.

And if the driver comes up sober, hire an attorney asap.

Seriously, you need to force the system to act.

New York is close to the worst at prosecuting drivers who hit pedestrians.

    •  awesumtenor - did you file a civil lawsuit? (0+ / 0-)

      "let's talk about that"

settled for low 5 figures... not even the value of the wrestling scholarship I lost...
