    They are inanimate objects, tools. They are however, an "issue", as you correctly point out.

    Ready availability of a gun (or multiple guns) enables an individual to do far more damage than with most other potential "tools" of destruction. They also enable people to act with less forethought than might be needed with other means - especially for those who are suicidal. Lastly, I think many people would not find themselves as inclined to violence if they had to get "up close and personal" as they would with a knife or baseball bat (or frying pan).
