    nice freesia. one approach you might take with them is to get closer to the flower so that it is more or less full frame (which will help your built in exposure meter figure out a good exposure setting for it).  you can then perhaps bracket the exposure (take three pictures, with the auto setting as the "center" exposure and take one click down from that and one click up.)  look at the pictures and decide which is the best exposure for that flower.  then go to your manual exposure setting and set the best looking exposure, pull back to the desired framing and then take your shot.  with any luck the subject of the shot will then be exposed correctly and will show the appropriate detail.  i know that it's a lot to do and perhaps there are better photographers than i am that have a simpler method, but that one works for me. B)
