    ...orders there are that have been signed at the White House that are meant to facilitate exactly the opposite end result? Executive orders are a fairly unique thing.

    They may be good, bad, or indifferent; and, they are often contradictory. (All of this is "in they eyes of the beholder.")  

    A good case-in-point would be THIS.

    At the end of the day, in this particular instance, I'd call this a good gesture. How it's interpreted, in the real world, is another matter, altogether.

    HERE and HERE are stories of not-so-"good," related gestures (from a bigger-picture standpoint, in any event). The reality is that most folks may never know about some of the those "Executive Orders."

    But, again, as far as the story of Aaron Swartz is concerned, today's news is about a good gesture, at the very least.
