Queer Eye For the Straight Guy, etc. There's a difference between shows that are heavily patronized by gay viewers, and television ad that talks about "husband" in the context of same-sex marriage, marketed not to a niche audience, but to all of America.

Equality proponents need to show same-sex marriage as "normal", and the culture has certainly worked to make that a reality. Ads like this one will only help.

"Queer Eye..." is specifically about having explicitly gay people as a schtick. In the shows we're talking about, being gay isn't the point: they're just there and being treated like any other couple, straight or not.

In other words, the gay couple is so unremarkable it's not worth remarking about. When Holmes on Homes did their renos for gay couples, the fact they were gay wasn't brought up any more than you'd expect a married heterosexual couple to bring up the fact they're heterosexual.
