  •  I'm in Florida... (5+ / 0-)

we've been gerrymandered to death too.  Sucks.  The middle/northern part of my state tend to be conservative (or tea party conservative) but my state has gone blue (albeit light) in the last two prez elections.  Not that the Rethugs wouldn't still control, but I don't think it would be as lopsided as it is.

    •  Florida is not that lopsided (5+ / 0-)

Leading up to the last elections I was a little disheartened seeing Rmoney signs pop up like mushrooms after a rain.  But it was not representative, even here in Pinellas county.

Panhandle - yeah, that's pretty conservative, but once you start getting close to I-4 it's not nearly.  And South Florida, always far more liberal, is only getting more so as younger Latino's, especially younger Cuban-Americans, reach voting age.

I'm hoping that the gerrymandering crap comes back to bite the GOP nationwide.  If they keep up their current BS, it might.

The way gerrymandering works, it (by design) wouldn't take that many people to turn a gerrymandered-Republican district blue. But it would be near-impossible for them to return the favour; gerrymandered-Dem districts are the safest of the safe.

and the teabagging governor want to change the way electoral votes are counted...by districts not by actual votes....what a mess here too.

    •  Same in Ohio (4+ / 0-)

Out of 16 Congressional districts only 4 are held by Democrats yet the state is about 50-50 Dem to Republican.
