According to Neil deGrasse Tyson our probe discovered a phenomenon in its atmosphere now called the runaway green house effect. Once aware of it and of carbon dioxide being a primary driver we started looking at our own atmosphere and effects of carbon dioxide. Without NASA we might be decades behind realizing the global warming we are encountering. Space exploration may help us dodge a bullet which we might have never seen coming otherwise.
