  •  So what you're saying is because a FEW (0+ / 0-)

children might be disobedient, no child should be taught?

A 9 year old is still, as far as I know, in elementary school.

If you feel a 9 year old is competent to learn knife safety, why not also gun safety?

Oh, right, no child should be taught safety because they won't listen.

    •  I'm saying training is not a solution (0+ / 0-)

      1) Putting guns in children's hands to train them to use them "safely" guarantees that children will be shot.

      2) The idea is trotted out as the solution to children doing stupid things with guns. It is not, because children are disobedient.

      3) I do not agree with the Boy Scouts, but even they aren't stupid enough to put a weapon in the hands of a child under the age of 9.

It doesn't hurt to tell a child "no," but doing so is not the solution to preventing children from shooting guns "irresponsibly," because children are incapable of consistent responsible behavior.

Keeping children safe from guns requires keeping children out of places with guns. The most effective way to do that is to not have any guns in your own home, and to ask the adults if there are any guns at friends' houses, and not allow your children to go places where the answer is "yes."
