Many of the same voters who voted in Obama and senators Murray and Cantwell also voted for the 2/3rds rule.  And many of these same voters are strongly against a state income tax even if combined with lowered property tax and sales tax, even if it would save them money!

It is shallow to claim that the hard right was responsible for the 2/3rds rule--they don't make up a majority of the voters.  A deeper analysis is required.

played the siren's song to lure the mushy middle to crash on the rocks of a broken state government. Yeah, you could blame the folks that voted for it. But I refuse to absolve the ringleaders of any blame for it.

What's wrong with America? I'll tell you. Everything Romney said was pre-chewed wads of cud from Republicans from the last 30 years and yet he managed thru a combination of racism and selling the (false) hope of riches to get 47% of the national vote.

a lot of very rich people in this state who fought like hell to defeat the state income tax.  They spent tons of money lying to voters...it didn't help that the campaign for the income tax was pretty ineffectual.

"[I]n the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone...They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand."
