    due to the standing issue -- but IANAL and don't even play one on TV. If they do rule, it'll be likely a very narrow ruling limiting it to just California; I don't see a Loving v. Virginia style ruling coming from this court.

    Striking down DOMA (if they go there) is going to have farther reaching implications; that's going to affect everything from military benefits to Social Security to tax code changes.

      In the O'Connor days, I could definitely see them punting on the standing issue. I still think it's a strong possibility. There is another way to contain this to California, and that's simply to limit the facts to where it's a right that once given can't be taken away.

      I think they'll find a way to come down along those lines.

      I don't think we're going to see the expansive ruling many of us hope for, but I'll keep some champagne chilled just in case.
