  •  That sounds quite out of the ordinary, Kingsmeg! (6+ / 0-)

The book was written in Hebrew?  (Started studying that once, but now can only remember aleph, gimel, dahlet.)

That's a spelling of Moloch I haven't heard of before--interesting.  One wonders how any culture in any era can sacrifice its own children to a deity.  The very thought makes my stomach churn. It seems to me that with our worship of the mighty gun we're still sacrificing innocent children to Moloch.

Sorry to hear your family doesn't speak to you any more, but, well, we can always create a new family of our own, right?  I was lucky to grow up in a house where no book or idea was forbidden.  Hope you've enjoyed that freedom since you grew up.

    •  It's a scholarly treatise (3+ / 0-)

re-interpreting the conventional 'cult of Moloch' invented by the later Rabbinical schools, and perpetuated in Christian thought.  Originally written in German, I believe, but I read an English translation.  However, it relies heavily on analysis of form in Hebrew poetry, most of which was over my head.  I only had 1 year of biblical Hebrew in uni; the book was only fully comprehensible to a handful of top level Hebrew scholars.
