    To this day (and I'm 66) I have never finished either book, nor will I try again. Why beat myself up? There are so many other books I actually WANT to read...

      that I found Joseph and His Brothers fascinating, as far as I could go with on each of my three attempts to read it. So my failure was not because I didn't find it interesting but because I found it overwhelming. And yet I've managed to make it through In Search of Lost Time which is far longer and way, way more convoluted, no less than three different times. I'd like to give that one another shot with the newer translation.
