  •  I actually learned something new about cats (6+ / 0-)

A friend of mine's cat just had kittens and he made a post on Facebook seeking out people to adopt them. He posted a picture of one and said "This one appears to be female". Of course, being a smartass, I replied "What do you mean, appears to be? Can't you just pick the cat up and look?" and apparently not. When they're kittens, it's hard to tell apparently. Which means, it must really suck being a male cat if your junk is so small people can't even see it.

    •  Good grief, they're only kittens - (5+ / 0-)

cut them some slack! I assure you, by the time the male cat is ready for action, his junk is the right size for it.

      •  Back in '79 we adopted a kitten from the (0+ / 0-)

Humane Society - medium (length) hair cat. We were told it was a "she". When we brought "her" back to be spayed ("she" was too young yet to do it at time of adoption), they discovered "she" was a "he", and neutered him. We were informed at time of pick up that the surgery had gone well but... unexpected! So even professionals can sometimes get it wrong.

Fortunately we had given him a gender neutral name. But boy oh boy did my dad have fun with telling that story for years.

You can look at a cat and tell its sex...
Calico & Torties with a black, white and orange color pattern are nearly always female. In order for a male cat to have these colors it would have to have XXY Genes vs the standard XY Genes and the resulting male would be sterile...
