  •  This is going to be a fight we will wage... (4+ / 0-)

...well beyond this decade, no matter what short term "bargain" is struck. What many don't want to recognize is no matter how bad a deal is struck, the "Owners" will insist it's not enough. That's why I no longer feel pressure to compromise: the "Owners" don't perceive a responsibility to the infrastructure of civilization. They think they've created enough of their own personal protection cocoons to weather any civil uprising. We will all pay dearly for that hubris.

We allowed them to abdicate responsibility for maintaining the pension system. We allowed them to substitute a completely inadequate 401k oriented system, and they took advantage of our collective belief in the Confidence Fairy. We allowed them to loot our collective wealth in home equity. If we allow them to chip away at Social Security in the naive belief that we are making things better for future generations, there will be no nation worth passing on to future generations.

When you are right you cannot be too radical; when you are wrong, you cannot be too conservative. --Martin Luther King Jr.
