Defense contractors who are furloughed don't spend money. Most of those are in red states. Border patrols will be cut - and that's going to be noticed in TX and AZ.

Farmers will notice when the USDA and their extension agent doesn't answer their calls. Food processors will notice too. Almost all rural or in red states.

They're going to get hit faster and harder than most big cities and/or states where the economy is less dependent on federal money.

    •  Almost a third of Connecticut's income is Military (0+ / 0-)

The MIC has deliberately spread their operations into almost every congressional district, precisely because that would mean that a defense cut of any sort will have repercussions for any Congresscritter that proposes one.
That's why the Sequester is historic. By cutting "across the board", everyone gets trimmed.
The real payback on the Red States is that, for the most part, they are the states that receive more Federal money than they pay in, so cuts will effect them more than the states that pay in more than they receive.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!
