  •  Post-capitalist life, agrarian diet = fat. Alert! (0+ / 0-)

Reagan era: Household income increases x1.5 and personal income falls x.2. Translation: households become double income at a pace that no one could have believed possible.

Bush I era: household incomes fall, and personal incomes fall more.

Clinton era: household incomes increase, but unemployment increases, then decreases but with a fall in household income because some make it big, most don't make it at all.

During it all, the pressure on all classes is to work more hours to "increase productivity." During Bush I companies began firing every fourth or fifth worker, intentionally letting work fall behind, pressuring the "team" to get it done if they don't want to end up like Chuck or Charlotte who was let go, and then bringing in a temp or consultant to do all the work without benefits. They paid much more for the temp or consultant, but it came out of a different budget line than "labor," so they reported profits.

All those hours meant that the poor, middling, and rich ate garbage in or ate garbage out, but we all ate garbage. Our caloric intake was meant for working in the fields or the home, but we couldn't even hope for that.

The stock men were happy, though.

Everyone is innocent of some crime.
