what?  The sequester isn't so bad, it's not bad at all, and also it's Obama's evil plan to stick it to his poor adversaries?

Seems to me I've heard that narrative before...

Well, it sounds as though hmi has misinterpreted what he reads in www.............. Anyway, most of the cuts will come from where the money is. Medicare, medicaid, and social security are exempt. So where's the money? It's in the wages of federal employees. It's in pell grants. It's in defense. It's in the National institutes of Health. I could go on. But I won't

Point One: The number being talked about is wrong by about 100%. Call me nit-picky, but I have this atavistic notion about getting the facts straight. And yeah, $45 billion in cuts would be better than $85 billion in cuts. Not to mention that the cuts are about amounts of increase, not from present expenditure level.

Point Two: If you don't think that Brewer might have a point, that these particular prison releases might be calculated to hit where the Obama administration thinks they might hurt political opponents, well, all I can say is that you have preserved your youthful idealism admirably intact. Bless your pure heart.

that Brewer gets a lot of her campaign cash from private prison companies. If that isn't a conflict of interest I don't know what is.

Just imagine, sheriff Joe invites the detainees to his tent paradise in the desert outside Phoenix and Brewer invites them to her pals concrete paradises scattered all over Arizona. It's fun for everyone, except the detainees of course who probably would have it better in ICE camps.

        •  And you miss the points (0+ / 0-)

You will, I hope, pardon me if I don't take "well, she deserved it" as an adequate excuse. Brewer could have conflicts of interest up the wazoo and it would be entirely irrelevant to the rights and wrongs of whatever the Obama administration might or might not do.

The point is that if homeland security isn't going to jail the illegal immigrant detainees, then Brewer would like the detainees in her pals private jails. Then there's more money for her pals and more money for her political campaigns.

Who said "well, she deserved it?" I certainly didn't, but that is exactly how I feel. You hit the nail on the head.

I live in Arizona. If President Obama wants to "stick it to her," then by all means go for it and I'll help in whatever way I can. Brewer and her sleazy republican scumbag friends inside and outside the state legislature can go suck sand. And there's a lot of sand out in the Arizona desert.
