  •  Many years ago when I wore my hair very short (5+ / 0-)

I was referred to as "young man" in a hardware store.  I laughed it off.  The other week I came across store clerk that I really couldn't tell if they were male or female.  The hair do and garb we trendy and gender neutral.  The person was a friendly, competent clerk, and that was what mattered to me.  It is beyond sad that such common occurrances need to lead to violence.  I couldn't image it occurring in either of my 2 examples, and they are just the 2 that come to mind most readily.
