  •  He won't. The NeoLiberals hold that (16+ / 0-)

we have to "compete in the global marketplace," and the President has repeated those words himself, and often.

That means "compete with the wages paid to slaves and near-slaves." That means unemployment has to go on for another ten years or so to drive down wages here. So that we can "compete."

The Conservatives love the idea of slave-wages; the NeoLiberals have a Realpolitick (i.e., "moral imbecile") acceptance of Big Money's premises and don't love the idea of slave-labor, just accept that that's the way things are.

Hence, there is hardly a Democratic Leader who does anything concrete to end, or even relieve, unemployment in the US, though there's lip service now and then. It certainly isn't even talked about as much as the "deficit problem" which only exists in the imaginations of politicians.

The argument that "Republicans will obstruct" would force a logical person to say "well, propose a massive jobs creation program, and win in 2014." Instead we're getting "let's alienate the voters so we can say we made a miserable deal, but at least it was a deal."

We live in a nation where doctors destroy health; lawyers, justice; universities, knowledge; governments, freedom; the press, information; religion, morals; and our banks destroy the economy. -- Chris Hedges
