...different than the internecine arguments of leftist intellectuals in the late '60s and early '70s. Not a word about, to give a single examples, the Ehrenreichs' writing on class stratification.

For the left, the objective for the 21st Century remains, as Heinz Dieterich has said to "solve the urgent problems of humanity, like poverty, hunger, exploitation, economic oppression, sexism, racism, the destruction of natural resources, and the absence of a really participative democracy.”

Apostate challenges of leftist critiques like this diary based on defense of President Obama's highly mixed record on all those matters Dieterich raises have a duty to rise above the mere spew by presenting both an alternative vision AND an alternative path for obtaining the the fruits of the vision. Otherwise, they qualify as nothing more than pure wankery, not a whit better than what they declaim as the circle-jerk political philosophy of those the diarist pretends no longer have any interest in making ours a better world.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
