  •  So you think that if I want... (0+ / 0-)

...to go to a soup kitchen on a free Saturday and ladle out soup for the hungry, I shouldn't be allowed to do that for free?

The soup kitchen should be legally required to divert some of its funds from buying the ingredients needed to make the soup in order to pay me, when I would otherwise be volunteering?

If that is what you're suggesting, your idea would essentially destroy the charitable sector.

"When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist." --Dom Helder Camara, archbishop of Recife

    •  If a soup kitchen has a need for a cook... (0+ / 0-)

... or dishwasher, then this person should be compensated as a proper employee.

Insisting that "volunteers" be allowed to take the place of actual workers just opens the door to exploitation of all.
