Is he considering? He barely lost the primary to Gill. He's from the west end of the district as well.

    •  May be considering statewide run in IL (5+ / 0-)

He gave up the Greene County State's Attorney (equivalent to District Attorney in many other states) post in order to run for Congress, so he may run for Attorney General if outgoing Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon decides not to run for Attorney General.

IL-13 was drawn by the Democrats who control the General Assembly specifically for Goetten and he lost the primary to a perennial candidate.

Two other potential candidates in IL-13 are State Senator Andy Manar and State Representative Sue Scherer. Manar's state senate district is basically the middle third of IL-13, including parts of Decatur and Springfield and extending southward to Manar's base in Macoupin County. Scherer is from Decatur, and her state house district consists of the northern part of Manar's state senate district.

Manar won't look for Congress yet. He'll be focused on winning a 2nd term. Besides, as Pres. Cullerton's former CoS he's got the connections to quickly enter leadership in Illinois. It's at least one more Senate run for Manar.

        IL-10 to IL-07 by way of -09, -17 and -18.
