    So you, too, have in mind the backstory evoked by mention of Quanah Parker. On our drives between Taos & Tennessee, we've made the side trip to Palo Duro Canyon - where some of the action in Empire of the Summer Moon plays out.

    Powerful read, that one. Totally recommended; if you don't know some of that story, you're missing an important part of what the US is, particularly vis-a-vis Texas.

      Some very important stuff in there. Very powerful and difficult to read. It didn't make me feel any better about how our government exploited the People but this one made me shudder at the Comanches behavior, as well. I don't usually have that reaction and I tend to "feel" the part of the Native People the most.
